A Working Example Week

The following timetable outlines the resource aims and task requirements as a guide for each day during a one week allocation.

Monday: Preparing :- What the students know already?
  1. Introduce students to ward and weeks teaching, including a patient allocation/clerking

  2. Direct students to their Record Book (sections for completion, including learning need profile and personal formulary) and First Standard Vignette
Tuesday: Building and evaluating through focused activity
  1. Interactive Session
    • Identify requirements from students learning needs profile

    • Use corresponding Session and Master Card presentation to focus discussion in comparison with students own experience, clinical reasoning and inter-professional clinical experience
    • Prescribing exercise/s and development of antibiotic formulary
Wednesday:
  1. Allocate a second patient, to each student, for clerking
  2. Direct students to their Record Book and Second Selected Vignette
  3. Direct students to IVOST protocol and exercises, when appropriate
Thursday:
  1. Discussion Session
    • Use corresponding Session and Master Card presentation to focus discussion in comparison with students own experience, clinical reasoning and recent experience with their clerked patients.

    • Prescribing exercise/s and development of antibiotic formulary
Friday:
  1. Transference Session
    • Using the students' preparation vignettes compare similarities of prescribing practise between differing diagnoses.

    • Prescribing exercise/s and development of antibiotic formulary

    • Evaluation of the weeks learning of prudent prescribing - address any learning gaps indicated in the students learning needs profile.
